The largest city in Northern California, San Jose is the economic and cultural center of Silicon Valley. Covering an area of 179.97 square miles, San Jose is located in the center of Santa Clara Valley, the most affluent county in California. On the Southern shore of the San Francisco Bay, San Jose has an estimated population of 1,026,908 as of 2015 and is the third most populous city in the state of California. The abundant supply of water from the Guadalupe River attracted the home Indians who were early inhabitants of the area. The first Spanish settlers named the settlement Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe in honor of Saint Joseph. Water was not the only attractive element of the area. The water connected nearby cities that had been planned by the Spanish government. This was also home to most of the agriculture and farming that fed residents. The area began to grow slowly leading the Spanish government to scale back plans for more settlers.  Americans began to arrive later, in the 1840s.attracted to the possibilities of the land.  San Jose began to grow quickly as word spread about the fertile and available land.  San Jose was named the first capital of California n 1849 due to the rapid growth of the area.

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose

If you are looking for something fun and interesting to do with kids while you are in San Jose, this is an amazing place to visit. One of the top Children’s museums in the US, the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose was opened in 1990 and is now one of the world’s top science centers as well. Emma Prusch Farm Park

Once a working farm, this rich agricultural land was bequeathed to the city by Native SanJosean Emma Prusch. The land was once a dairy farm and is now a 47 acre park. The land has one of the oldest free standing wooden barns in the state which is home to 4H large animals like swine, sheep and beef cattle. You will also find rare fruit orchards, two community gardens, butterfly gardens and a Plant Science Center. There is also a Friendship Forest made up of trees from around the world. The small farm animal enclosure houses rabbits, chickens, and pigs. Children will delight at seeing the geese, duck, chickens and guinea fowl that roam the park freely.
